@Sector 5: A Tryst with Databases … the delicate ones!
What’s the closest match to a delicately beautiful whimsical lady… in the world of computer science? Don’t scratch your heads, I’ll tell you… she”s a database or the database management system. The databases however carefully created generally tend to have a mind of her own, it’s her will to go deliberately rogue and be totally spiteful at any of your coaxing attempts, or, it’s her will to stay as the most delicately obedient pet– oh so respectful to you! She generally has the tendency to go awry at the least expected moment and is sure to keep you at your toes if you are programming in the database realm — ball is in her court!
To propose any change to her, you have to watch out for so many issues (viz: concurrent access, atomicity etc.) … and you have to accept she is the reality however right you may be, because do whatever you may, it’s her who shows the final result thus has the final word(The change is either reflected, or it’s not)! Any-day she works like a dream, be sure that this is just the silver lining, and beyond is a wobbly-blobby black cloud that’s going to keep you going over her cryptic words ( the error messages that seem to mean something grave), over and over again loosing the hours of sleep that you so badly need! And that you always to keep her behind the scenes ( back end), she is eternally vengeful ready to throw tantrums at the slightest pretext, for she always feels you are not giving her the required attention( gawd, she is attention seeking)!
Choose to ignore my warning and ever think she will just be behaving predictably, you are in for a very severe heart-ache. And if you were ever in love with her you know heart-breaks and joyous reconciliations are in the order of the hours — when she fiestily chooses to accept or ignore your advances! My advice, before suggesting or commanding anything to her look everywhere & literally sit on your hands and then do the leap. Don’t forget what i said about your hands, it’s the only single way you talk to her by typing in as John Meyers said ” say what you wanna say”.
